A little History
The George Hotel is built on the same site as the British Residential Commissioner, Sir Charles Saunders’ residency. The land was acquired in 1896, and the hotel was built in 1906 adjacent the great 250 hectare Dlinza Forest. It was originally The Tavenors then later it was called The Provincial Hotel. It was also operated as a Stock Exchange for four months during the mining boom of the 1920s. The George Hotel has been through the Bambata Rebellion, Union, Apartheid era and still here to be a part of the changing new South Africa.
