Mandela’s Housing Project

When President Mandela first became president of South Africa he promised that more than a million houses would be built for the poorer people of our Country. These are the first products of this project. Each person gets a small plot of land with a very basic concrete house which has a single room and adjacent toilet and shower off the small verandah.

Water is provided. When the resident family can afford to get electricity, this is connected on a “pay as you go” basis. Rustic roads and regular refuse removal are also provided.

As you can see, as each family progresses they add on to their houses and the general standard of the area improves.
