Mgungudlovu Heritage Park

Deep in the Valley of the Kings, just off the road between Melmoth and Vryheid lies the site of King Dingaan’s royal residence. Consisting of about 1 500 huts, Mgungundlovu also housed Dingaan’s 500 women and a substantial fighting force.  The king’s own residence has been re-created as part of the Emakhosini Valley Projects, and visitors will find both a heritage park with the burial sites of many Zulu kings including Shaka’s father Senzagakhona and the founder of the Zulu royal dynasty, Nkosinkhulu kaNalandela, who was born in 1627 and lived to be over 80.
