Just off the road between Eshowe and Melmoth, the Mthonjaneni Lodge has built up a wide-ranging private memorabilia collection from the battles fought in the area. Starting with the remains of the British fort which lies inside the Lodge’s grounds, successive owners have collected artefacts from bullets to snuff containers, from marijuana pipes to carbines and from spears to uniforms.
